主題について語るというよりも、子供に手渡したい物語という事を頭にいれながら色々な作品を手元に置き、思いつく話をするという感じの本でした。構造的に作品に切り込んで行くというより、安易な魔法の使用を戒めたり、悪の位置付けを注意深くみたりと、色々な視点から俯瞰的に作品を眺めるという感じです。

伝承に踏み込むあたりから、『指輪物語』完全読本と同じく眠くなってしまいました。作者が作品に漂う空気を伝えようとしても、北欧系の伝承を知らないので付いていけませんでした。(笑)

その後の"「中つ国」とナルニア"の比較や、最初に書かれている「緑の太陽」をどう表現するかについての小説とヴィジュアルとの比較は、世界の構築の仕方の面でとても面白いものでした。確かにファンタジーの物語には不思議さをスパイスとするモノと、不思議さの連続性で成り立っているモノがあるというのは良く分かりました。

だいぶ前に読み終わっていた為か、WEBサイトの画像と、手元の表紙の絵が違う。(笑)

近頃、両親や自分の老後について考えてみたりします。本のタイトルは、まさにそれを言い当てていました。作者の書き方にも慣れてきたため、独身の働く都会人(女性)の意見として、具体的なことがらが書かれており、とても読みやすかったです。特に、終の棲家についてや、介護、病気になることについては、リアルな問題をリアル一歩手前からの視点で書いているのだと思います。死にカタログとは、まったく別の死に付いての本です。

その中で一番心に響いたのは、作者がよしもとばななの言葉を引用した以下の文です。

夫がいて子供がいて仕事があれば「世界中にひとりきりだな」と思わないと思っている人がいるが、その想像力のなさはたいぞう並み（どのたいぞうかは言いませんが）だという感じがする。孤独が骨にしみるようなことは、どんなときでもあるし、ないなら人間としておかしいと思う。ただ、夫がいて子供がいて仕事がある場合の孤独と、その全部がなくて友達もいない場合の孤独には質の差がある、それは確かかもしれない。選ぶのは自分。(よしもとばなな公式サイト(日記))

気に入った所は以下の所。
